The New Day is the longest reigning tag team in WWE history. They are now part of SmackDown Live after getting moved from Monday Night Raw in the Superstar Shake-Up two weeks ago. The plans for Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E. have been revealed by the latest rumors.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the WWE is planning to start a feud between The New Day and The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team championships, per Sportskeeda. It would be a fresh matchup on television and it was the whole point of the Superstar Shake-Up.
However, the feud might not start immediately because of the injury to Kofi Kingston. He underwent ankle surgery on April 10 and he was ruled out for several weeks, as reported by WWE.com. The WWE is reporting that it was because of The Revival but Kingston was already looking to get surgery and he had to be written out of television.
The SmackDown Live tag team division needed a big boost and it seems like The New Day was moved to make it happen. American Alpha and The Colons are also having a feud of their own to liven up the lackluster division. The SmackDown tag team titles were the only championships not defended at WrestleMania 33.
According to PW Mania, Kofi Kingston is getting closer to a return after the stitches from his ankle were recently removed. He will undergo rehabilitation soon and the feud might even start early since Xavier Woods and Big E. are perfectly healthy.
Kofi Kingston can accompany Xavier Woods and Big E. during their matches even he's not cleared to wrestle. The New Day is still the biggest tag team in the WWE and they are still going strong from their merchandise sales and to the cheers they are getting from the WWE Universe.

The feud is meant to bring some focus on the tag team division on Smackdown LIVE which has been in disarray over the past couple of months. Over the past few months, the Usos, and the American Alpha were the only two teams that have been legitimate contenders for the tag team titles.

The addition of the Colons and the New Day was meant to bring back some legitimacy to the straps that have paled in comparison to their red counterparts.
A secondary feud between the Colons and American Alpha is also in the works. The WWE Universe saw a glimpse of this rivalry this past Tuesday when Primo and Epico scored a win over American Alpha in a major upset on Smackdown LIVE.

WWE are holding off The New Day’s appearance on Smackdown LIVE due to Kofi Kingston’s injury. There are no specific dates for the longest reigning tag team champions to appear on the blue brand yet. The idea is that Kofi may still accompany Big E and Xavier Woods to ringside even if he is not fit to compete.
The New Day defended the tag titles under the Freebird Rule for the entirety of their title reign, and a similar stunt may be pulled on Smackdown LIVE.

The New Day have been one of the hottest tag teams on WWE TV for most of 2016. They have strong merchandise sales and continue to be over with the WWE Universe. The Usos and The New Day can reignite their rivalry, carrying the entire tag team division in the right direction If these plans indeed materialize, this feud has the potential to become one of the best rivalries of the year.
